GROUPE TRAVEL, FOOD & HOSPITALITY - New York City : The relaunch of its hotels & tourism industry

With Vijay DANDAPANI & Hervé HOUDRE

The Club Tourisme & Management (ESCP, HEC and ESSEC Alumni) is very pleased and honoured to welcome Vijay DANDAPANI, President and CEO of the Hotel Association of New York City and with the participation of Hervé HOUDRE, Expert in sustainable hospitality and former Managing Director namely of the Intercontinental Washington DC and NYC.

After a year of crisis and trauma, the Big Apple is slowly but surely making its come back several months ahead of Europe. At mid-April, roughly 30% of the population above 16 has been vaccinated. Domestic travel is gradually picking up, hotels are welcoming leisure guests again, restaurants, museums and monuments have reopened, concert halls and movie theaters as well.
  • In what state is the hotel landscape after so many months of lockdown ?
  • How are hotels concretely managing the gradual ramp-up of touristic activity ?
  • Who are the early 2021 customers ? What are their expectations ?
  • What new concepts and innovations are emerging to satisfy the new generations of travellers ?
  • What are the strategies to offset the longer-lasting loss of business travellers ?
  • How are the other key tourism sectors such as restaurants, culture, events, entertainment, coping in a still very sketchy context ?
  • What are the 5-year economic prospects for the city’s hotel sector and its pre-Covid $5 billion tourism industry ?
Vijay DANDAPANI, a Cornell graduate, has worked in the city’s hospitality industry for over 30 years. He namely served as President of Apple Core Hotels, a NYC-based hotel developer and operator, and had been involved in HANYC for many years before assuming his current role. HANYC, founded in 187, is the oldest US hotel association and represents more than 700 hotels.
